The Federal Communications Commission knows about the state of local TV news. It released a report in June 2011, “The Information Needs of Communities: The changing media landscape in a broadband age.”

You can read condensed, critical versions of the report by Michael Castengera, a former newspaper/ television reporter and current senior lecturer at the Grady College of Journalism at the University of Georgia.

Why doesn’t the Federal Communications Commission do more?  Well, the FCC reports to Congress – more specifically to the Committee on Energy and Commerce in the U.S. House of Representatives.

You can find out who the committee members are by clicking on their link.
